HC Deb 27 November 1984 vol 68 cc460-1W
30. Mr. Eggar

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement on the current state of his social security reviews.

Mr. Newton

The review teams are assessing the evidence they have received and are aiming to conclude their work by the end of this year. We shall then draw the results together with a view to publishing our conclusions and proposals in the early part of next year.

43. Mr. Sayeed

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he has finished taking oral and written evidence on the social security reviews.

Mr. Newton

It is assumed that all those intending to submit written evidence to the reviews have now done so. Nineteen public sessions have been held at which oral evidence was heard, and no other such sessions are planned.

38. Mr. Lewis Stevens

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services, when he expects to publish his conclusions on the reviews of social security.

Mr. Newton

Conclusions, and proposals for changes arising from the review, are expected to be published in the early part of 1985.
