HC Deb 27 November 1984 vol 68 c469W
Sir David Price

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what progress he has made in implementing the recommendations of the Griffiths inquiry into the management of the National Health Service.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Health authorities are making good progress in implementing the recommendations of the management inquiry report in accordance with the guidance issued by the Government in June. The appointment of general managers, as a key step in carrying forward the other recommendations in the Report, is broadly on schedule: we have agreed to proposals, for action in all RHAs, 107 DHAs, and four SHAs. Of these five Regional and 72 district health authorities have opted for open advertisement. Appointments have now been settled in 12 regional health authorities, 41 district health authorities and four special health authorities.
