HC Deb 27 November 1984 vol 68 c417W
Mr. Cohen

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he will list the Metropolitan Police areas where graded response times have been implemented;

(2) if he will publish the detailed graded response times which operate in the police area covering Leyton and Leytonstone.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis tells me that an experimental scheme has been introduced in Croydon but that he has not yet prepared guidelines for the introduction of graded response throughout the force area. Graded response does not operate on the basis of fixed response times. Its purpose is to make more effective use of available manpower by grading police response to 999 calls in the light of an assessment of the urgency of each call and the likely result of immediate police action.
