Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) if he will give the reasons for the withdrawal of Jaguar aircraft from Germany;

(2) which aircraft are currently carrying out the roles previously carried out by the Jaguars in Germany.

Mr. Stanley

The RAF's Jaguar aircraft in Germany are being replaced in the strike/attack role by the more modern and effective Tornado GR1.

Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what the Royal Air Force intends to do with the Jaguar aircraft that have been withdrawn from Germany.

Mr. Stanley

The intention is that for the most part they will be used to maintain the Jaguar Squadrons that we plan to run on in the UK.
