HC Deb 27 November 1984 vol 68 c422W
Mr. Stephen Ross

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what terms were imposed in connection with the recent Democratic Unionist party rally in Trafalgar square.

Mr. Macfarlane

Permission was given, not for a Democratic Unionist party rally in Trafalgar Square, but for a public meeting organised by the Apprentice Boys of Derry (Londonderry) Thames and Avon branch Murray Club on 17 November.

The organisers assured my Department that this would be a prayer meeting with hymns, not a political rally. However, in the light of what took place I have instructed my Department to pursue with the organisers what appears to be a breach of their undertaking.
