HC Deb 26 November 1984 vol 68 cc349-50W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what instructions are issued to the Metropolitan police regarding the circumstances in which truncheons may be used, and on what parts of the body; and whether he will issue guidance to forces outside the Metropolitan police on the same matters.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The Metropolitan police instructions on the use of truncheons are given in chapter 10, paragraph 12, of the instruction book, a copy of which is in the Library of the House. We have no plans to issue guidance on the matter.
