Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his most recent estimate of the number of supplementary benefit payments that are subject to deductions under section 6 of the Social Security (No. 2) Act 1980 (a) in Great Britain and (b) in Scotland.

All supplementary benefit payments to strikers are subject to deductions under section 6 of the Social Security (No. 2) Act 1980. Cumulative totals of such payments for 1984 up to 23 October are as follows:
