HC Deb 26 November 1984 vol 68 cc400-1W
Dr. McDonald

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has any plans to extend the provisions of the Housing Defects Act 1984 to owner-occupiers of post-1960 prefabricated concrete houses purchased from local authorities and built by them; and if he will make a statement.

Sir George Young

No. On the evidence available to my right hon. Friend a designation under section 1 of prefabricated concrete houses designed after 1960 would not be justified.

Dr. McDonald

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will provide an estimate of the number and types of prefabricated concrete houses built by local authorities in England and Wales after 1960.

Sir George Young

Departmental records indicate that about 33,500 prefabricated concrete houses (i.e. excluding flats and maisonettes) of 40 different types were built by local authorities and new towns in England in the period 1964 to 1979 inclusive, and in Wales in the period 1960 to 1979 inclusive. Information is not available for the years 1961 to 1963 for England, and 1980 to date for England and Wales.
