asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will meet the organisations concerned with the blind and deaf to discuss proposals from the Advisory Committee on Supply and Education of Teachers for removing the mandatory requirement from a specialist qualification for teachers of blind and hearing impaired children; and if he will make a statement.

My right hon. Friend has agreed to meet representatives of these organisations. The meeting is expected to take place shortly.
