HC Deb 23 November 1984 vol 68 cc316-7W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he expects the current Greater London development plan to be superseded by the 33 adopted unitary borough development plans which he is now proposing in the event of the abolition of the Greater London council.

Mr. Macfarlane

Plans will be prepared as required and it is therefore not appropriate at this stage to think in terms of an overall timetable.

Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he intends that the approved Greater London development plan should continue to be used as the statutory planning framework in London for the reassessment of land allocations for housing called for in his circular 15/84, "Land for Housing" issued on 4 July.

Mr. Macfarlane

The Greater London development plan remains the structure plan for London until its replacement by unitary development plans following abolition of the Greater London council.

Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether the existing approved Greater London development plan continues to reflect central Government policy and current development priorities in London as required in his circular 22/84, "Memorandum on Structure and Local Plans".

Mr. Macfarlane

The Greater London development plan remains the current structure plan for London, but where more recent policy advise has been issued by the Government, this should be taken into account by the relevant local planning authorities.
