HC Deb 23 November 1984 vol 68 cc291-2W
Mr. Weetch

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate for the current financial year, the yield to the Exchequer from the taxation of building society profits on gilt edged securities.

Mr. Moore

I regret that insufficient data are available from which to produce an estimate for the current financial year. Had profits on gilt edged securities in 1983–84 been subject to corporation tax, the yield would have been about £200 million, but this figure cannot be regarded as any indicator of the current yield.
