HC Deb 22 November 1984 vol 68 c216W
Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the equivalent in tonnes of coal of the current supply of nuclear electricity.

Mr. Goodlad

The latest issue of my Department's Energy Trends shows provisionally that, in August 1984, the supply of nuclear electricity sent out from the public supply system would have required the consumption of 1.15 million tonnes of coal in coal-fired power stations.

Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Energy how much electricity, in terms of millions of tonnes of coal, each envisaged pressurised water reactor will produce.

Mr. Goodlad

The quantity of electricity produced by a PWR would depend on its capacity and the extent to which it is available for use
