HC Deb 22 November 1984 vol 68 c251W
63. Dr. Mawhinney

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many police officers man the national reporting centre daily; how many are on the roster for service there; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The president of the Association of Chief Police Officers, colleagues in the association and one of Her Majesty's inspectors of constabulary are at various times at the National Reporting Centre, which is co-ordinating responses to requests for assistance from chief officers of police in England and Wales. During the daytime they have at present the help at the centre of six police officers and two civilian staff. Overnight the staffing is normally at a lower level. Duties are arranged on a week to week basis; there is no regular roster.
