HC Deb 22 November 1984 vol 68 c229W
Mr. Hooson

asked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he has received a further report of the review group on mental illness services in Dyfed.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

We received the latest report of the review group during the summer recess. The report indicates that the group has been generally encouraged by continued progress in developing mental illness services in Dyfed. It is also evident that the commitment to progress must be sustained at all levels in order to ensure that the remaining problems are tackled effectively, and that the implementation of joint strategic planning between the authorities involved is placed on a firm footing for the future. This confirms the impression which my right hon. Friend took away from his visit to St. David's hospital in the spring. The review group has begun to look ahead to the conclusion of its work. We have asked the chairman to give clear guidance in the next and probably final report on arrangements for monitoring developments in services for the mentally ill after the group has disengaged from the process of major improvement to which it has made such a significant contribution. A copy of the report has been placed in the Library.
