§ Mr. MellorThe diversion of police effort for public order duties arising from the miners' dispute began in the middle of March. The number of notifiable offences244W recorded in the second quarter of 1984, seasonally adjusted, was about 1½ per cent. higher than in the immediately preceding quarter. This was broadly in line with the general trend.
