asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will give the number of people employed in the clothing and footwear manufacturing industries in each member country of the European Economic Community in each of the last 10 years.

The Manchester travel-to-work area contains the following 10 job foci, as defined for the review of travel-to-work areas.

  • Focus 1: The Ardwick, Beswick, Bradford, Collegiate Church, Crumpsall, Hulme, Moss Side and Newton Heath wards of Manchester with Wards No. 9 and No. 12 of Salford.
  • Focus 2: The Northenden and Woodhouse Park wards of Manchester.
  • Focus 3: Ward No. 1 of Salford.
  • Focus 4: Ward No. 10 of Salford.
  • Focus 5: Ward No. 14 of Salford.
  • Focus 6: Ward No. 18 of Salford.
  • Focus 7: The Brinnington and South Reddish wards of Stockport.
  • Focus 8: The Ashton St Michael's and Ashton St Peters' wards of Tameside.
  • Focus 9: The Hyde Newton ward of Tameside.
  • Focus 10: The Altrincham, Broadheath, Davyhulme East, Longford, Park, Priory and Talbot wards of Trafford.

The self-containment ratios for the Manchester travel-to-work area are 92 per cent. on a residence base and 84 per cent. on a workplace base.
