HC Deb 21 November 1984 vol 68 cc183-4W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, before reaching a decision on the future of Thamesmead in the event of the Greater London council being abolished, he intends to consult further the London boroughs of Bexley and Greenwich over the possibility of transferring ownership of Greater London housing stock at Thamesmead to them; and if he wilml compel them to accept the stock against their wishes.

Sir George Young

If, after consultation with the residents of Thamesmead, ownership by a trust does not appear to he the best option, the local authorities concerned would be consulted about the detailed arrangements for transfer to borough ownership.

Greenwich have not yet accepted my invitation to a discussion about the possibility of a trust for Thamesmead.

Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he intends to consult the London boroughs of Greenwich and Bexley, the Greater London council and the private construction industry before reaching a decision on whether to transfer Thamesmead to a trust in the event of the Greater London council being abolished.

Sir George Young

There will be wide consultation before a decision is taken, including with the residents. Greenwich has not yet accepted my invitation to a discussion about the possibility of a trust for Thamesmead.
