HC Deb 20 November 1984 vol 68 c118W
Ms. Richardson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether women patients who have given their consent to an operation are made aware that medical students on gynaecology attachments may conduct vaginal examinations whilst women are unconscious.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I refer the hon. Member to my reply to her on 23 October, at column835. As with any examination or treatment, medical students should conduct vaginal examinations on women who are unconscious only if the patient had earlier consented to their involvement.
