HL Deb 20 November 1984 vol 457 c567WA
Lord Chelwood

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will indicate the effects of the amendments they are proposing to the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and whether they will bring forward their amendments as a matter of urgency.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment (The Earl of Avon)

The Act is in general working well. However, the Government are concerned about the damage to wildlife habitats which has occurred since the Act came into effect, and are giving urgent consideration to possible means of strengthening the habitat protection provisions of the Act.
