HC Deb 20 November 1984 vol 68 cc87-8W
Mr. Andrew Bowden

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if the Government are to seek leave to be represented before the Australian Royal Commission which is concerned with British nuclear weapon tests in Australia; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Butler

The president of the Royal Commission has already indicated that he would welcome United Kingdom representation.

It is the intention of Her Majesty's Government to seek leave to be represented and to give evidence.

Her Majesty's Government have also agreed in principle to the request from Senator Walsh, Australian Minister for Resources and Energy, for the Royal Commission to visit the United Kingdom in January to hear evidence.
