HC Deb 20 November 1984 vol 68 c128W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will permit doctors to prescribe Nicorette for patients who wish to give up smoking.

Mr. John Patten

Medical opinion on the value of Nicorette in general practice remains very divided. The advisory committee on borderline substances considers all anti-smoking remedies. It has advised the Government and the medical profession that the value of Nicorette in the normal circumstances of general practice is unproven and has recommended that it should not be prescribed.
