HC Deb 20 November 1984 vol 68 c138W
52. Mr. David Atkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many people he expects to have been placed in jobs by the jobcentre network in the current year; and how this compares with the previous years.

Mr. Peter Morrison

It is estimated that jobcentres will place 1.9 million people in jobs during the 1984–85 operational year. Information for the previous years is as follows:

Year ending Placings
5 March 1982 1,496,766
4 March 1983 1,580,311
2 March 1984 1,820,724

There is likely to have been a substantial number of people who found jobs other than through the jobcentres. Nationally it is estimated that about a quarter of all engagements are made through jobcentres.
