HL Deb 20 November 1984 vol 457 c562WA
Lord Harris of Greenwich

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the Home Secretary will secure a report from the Commissioner of Police for the Metropolis on allegations of financial irregularities concerning the Police Monitoring Committee of the London Borough of Islington; and whether the police are receiving full co-operation from the Greater London Council and Islington Borough Council in their inquiries.

Lord Elton

I understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that, following reports in the press of alleged financial irregularities within the Islington police monitoring group, Police Accountability for Community Enlightenment (PACE), his officers interviewed the chairman of the management committee of Islington Council. The commissioner has been informed that an auditor has been appointed by the management committee of PACE and the Greater London Council to look into the finances of the group. The police will be informed of the result in due course but at present they have no evidence of criminal activity.
