§ Mr. Austin Mitchellasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the current subsidy to the production and crushing of rape seed in terms of (a) rape seed and (b) rape seed oil; how the subsidy compares with the market price of seed and oil; and what other vegetable oils have been displaced by the increased output of rape seed oil.
§ Mr. MacGregorA single subsidy is paid to crushers equal to the difference between the Community target price for rape seed and the world price. The subsidy as at 15 November of £68.17 per tonne for rape seed of 40 per cent. oil content covered the difference between the target price of £302.04 per tonne and the world price of £233.87 per tonne.
Rape seed oil can substitute for a number of other oils, the most important of which is soya oil.
