HC Deb 19 November 1984 vol 68 cc37-8W
Dr. John Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the total grant aid to the support of the performing arts film activities in each of the two most recent years for which information is available.

Mr. Waldegrave

I have been asked to reply on behalf of the Minister for the Arts.

Information on total grant aid from local authority sources is not available. Central Government grant-aid for the support of film as an art form was £9.4 million in 1982–83 and £8.2 million in 1983–84.

The figures comprise support by the British Film Institute, Arts Council of Great Britain and Scottish Films Council, excluding Arts Council support through regional arts associations.

Dr. Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the total grant aid given to major performing arts bodies by the Greater London council and metropolitan counties in the two most recent years for which information is available.
