Mr. Madden

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he has made representations to the Government of Pakistan about the respect for human rights in that country.

The Pakistan Government can be in no doubt about the strength of our views concerning violations of human rights wherever they occur. We have very recently reiterated our concern to the Pakistan Government about human rights issues and about certain aspects of the application of martial law in Pakistan.
