HC Deb 19 November 1984 vol 68 c27W
Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for Energy (1) if he has had consultations with the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate, the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority or the Health and Safety Commission about the effects of delaying maintenance in nuclear power stations as a result of the coal dispute; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he has received any representations about the effects on nuclear power stations of delays in maintenance as a result of the coal dispute;

(3) if he is satisfied that delays in maintenance at nuclear power stations do not affect the safety of those stations.

Mr. Goodlad

Nuclear power stations are required to be shut down every two years for inspection and maintenance under conditions attached to their nuclear site licences. These conditions are enforced by Her Majesty's Nuclear Installations Inspectorate and I am satisfied that in every respect these requirements are being met.
