§ Mr. Wareingasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will ensure that the practice of kidney bartering does not take place in the National Health Service; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. John PattenIf by "kidney bartering" the hon. Member means the payment of a person to donate one of his kidneys for transplantation, I can assure him that we are totally opposed to such a practice. It has been condemned by the Transplantation Society, and is contrary to a Council of Europe resolution to which this country is signatory.
