HC Deb 19 November 1984 vol 68 c13W
Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if the Criminal Law Revision Committee has yet reached any conclusions on the need for changes in the law relating to kerb crawling; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if the policy advisory committee on sexual offences has yet reached any conclusions on the need for changes in the law relating to kerb crawling; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mellor

The Criminal Law Revision Committee, advised by the policy advisory committee on sexual offences, submitted a report on "Prostitution in the Street" which was published in August (Cmnd. 9329). The report recommends the creation of a new offence to deal with the nuisance of kerb crawling. As I said in a reply to a question from the hon. Member on 14 November, at columns 258–59, we welcome the committee's recommendation and, although there will be no early opportunity to give effect to it in Government legislation, we would support a Bill introduced by a private Member for that purpose.
