HC Deb 16 November 1984 vol 67 c387W
Mr. Pawsey

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he intends to amend the residence test for pensioners over the age of 80 years.

Mr. Newton

An amendment to the Social Security (Widow's Benefit and Retirement Pensions) Regulations was laid before the House on 5 November. The amending regulations provide that with effect from 26 November 1984 periods of residence in Great Britain after age 80 may be taken into account for satisfaction of the 10 years residence test for non-contributory retirement pension. The amending regulations also provide that a person who failed to satisfy the former residence condition may have his entitlement reconsidered under the new condition from 26 November. Arrangements will be made as soon as possible to identify those existing pensioners who may qualify under the new arrangements and local social security offices will be pleased to deal with individual inquiries from potential beneficiaries.
