§ Mr. D. E. Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list all aid given to Turkey since 1979.
§ Mr. RaisonI refer the hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for Hamilton (Mr. Robertson) on 20 February, at column392, in which I said that disbursements on British bilateral aid to Turkey since 1979 were as follows:
been made in co-operation with the Government of Pakistan in preventing the export of heroin from that country; and what further assistance Her Majesty's Government will give for the replacing of poppy cultivation by other crops.
§ Mr. RaisonWe co-operate closely with the Government of Pakistan and other Governments in an international programme aimed at reducing the export of heroin from Pakistan. The amount of opium grown in Pakistan has reduced from 800 tons in 1979 to an estimated 40 to 45 tons this year. Our customs liaison officer in Pakistan has provided information which has led to a number of arrests.
I shall consider the possibility of giving further assistance in the light of the progress of our current programme of assistance for crop substitution.
