§ Dr. Marekasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will take steps to ensure that changes in transport supplementary grant do not lead to a lower standard of road maintenance.
§ Mrs. ChalkerThere is no reason why the changes in the transport supplementary grant system should affect the standard of local authority road maintenance. Local authorities' current expenditure will continue to be supported through block grant and individual authorities are free to decide their own priorities.
