asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish figures, using November 1984 benefit rates, and tabulating net weekly spending power for a lone mother with two children aged six and eight years living in local authority accommodation and paying average local authority rent and rates, in each of the following circumstances (a) not in paid work, drawing long-term supplementary benefit, (b) working part-time earning £24 a week and drawing long-term supplementary benefit and (c) working full-time with £25 weekly work expenses and earning the average for female manual earners, and also three-quarters and one-and-a-half times average for female manual earners.

Notes:

(1) Average gross earnings for female manual earners are assumed to be £96.92 a week;

(2) The general assumptions in the April 1984 DHSS tax-benefit model tables apply except that rent is assumed to be £15.60 a week and general rates £5.85 a week.
