Mr. Chris Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what estimates he has made of the numbers of applicants in an average year who would have qualified for non-contributory invalidity pension but who will now not qualify for severe disablement allowance.

Mr. Newton

It is estimated that between 1,000 to 1,500 married women who have qualified annually for housewives' non-contributory invalidity pension will not qualify for severe disablement allowance. Overall,
