HC Deb 15 November 1984 vol 67 c336W
Mr. Snape

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what was the number of stage journeys on public passenger road transport in 1983.

Mr. David Mitchell

The number of stage journeys on public road passenger transport in 1983 was 5,550 million.

Mr. Snape

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what has been the level of stage service fares for all bus operators in each of the years 1964 to 1984 expressed in constant prices.

Mr. David Mitchell

My Department does not collect national data on the level of stage service fares; instead, it collects information on changes in stage service fares from which it calculates a fares index. The index for all bus operators in Great Britain in each of the years 1964 to 1984 relative to 31 December 1973 = 100 and deflated by the retail prices index was as follows:

Year
1964 86.3
1965 87.5
1966 91.0
1967 91.5
1968 92.8
1969 93.2
1970 99.7
1971 107.2
1972 106.8
1973 102.0
1974 98.5
1975 107.6
1976 117.6
1977 116.4
1978 122.6
1979 121.6
