HC Deb 15 November 1984 vol 67 c313W
Dr. Marek

asked the Prime Minister (1) whether the code of practice, Cmnd. 9270, relating to data collected for statistical purposes, allows for any raw personal data collected for statistical survey to be passed to the police;

(2) whether the code of practice, Cmnd. 9270, relating to data collected for statistical purposes, allows for the data in statistical form to be passed to the police.

The Prime Minister

The conditions governing the transfer of statistical information to the police are the same as those for any organisation of bona fide researchers outside Government Departments. The code of practice provides for data about individuals to be transferred for statistical purposes where it has been safeguarded by being made anonymous. Information about identifiable individuals is not transferred except in very limited circumstances, which are clearly defined in the code.
