HC Deb 15 November 1984 vol 67 cc334-5W
Mr. Gould

asked the Secretary of State for Energy (1) what is the average price paid by the Central Electricity Generating Board for(a) coal and (b) oil over the last three months for which figures are available; and how these figures compare with those for the same periods in 1980, 1981, 1982 and 1983;

(2) whether he will publish in the Official Report a table showing for coal and oil delivered to power stations under the control of the Central Electricity Generating Board, in the most recent month or week for which figures are available, the average or a representative price per tonne.

Mr. Goodlad

The latest available information, published in the "Digest of United Kingdom Energy Statistics 1984", shows that the average price of coal and oil burnt at power stations in Great Britain in 1983 was £42.29 and £120.71 per tonne, respectively. The corresponding figures for the earlier years are as follows:

Coal

£

Oil

£

1980 31.84 85.73
1981 37.43 107.87
1982 40.21 109.41

Mr. Gould

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what information he has as to the landed price of (a) imported coal other than anthracite and (b) imported heavy fuel oil in the latest month for which figures are available for the corresponding month in 1983.

Mr. David Hunt

Information about the price of imported coal and fuel oil can be derived fromOverseas Trade Statistics of the United Kingdom, which is available in the Library of the House.
