§ Mr. Peter ReesAccording to the Department of Employment's "New Earnings Survey," average gross weekly earnings were £159.3 in April 1984. This figure is for full-time employees on adult rates whose pay was not affected by absence. In real terms, this is an increase of 9 per cent. since April 1975, and of 12½ per cent. since April 1978.
