§ Mr. Giles ShawThe cost of the section dealing with islands' matters in 1983–84 was £244,500 including overheads and common services. These costs are met by the United Kingdom Government except to the extent that they include the Home Office role in the discharge of the Government's responsibility for the islands' defence and external relations, to which a contribution is made by the Isle of Man.
§ Mr. Foulkesasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will explain the procedure through which the United Kingdom exercises its responsibilities toward the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man in cases of foreign and international representation.
§ Mr. Giles ShawThe United Kingdom Government are responsible for the islands' international relations. The relevant United Kingdom Government Departments represent the islands' interests in international negotiations and the islands' authorities are advised and consulted, through the Home Office, as necessary. In addition, the facilities of United Kingdom posts abroad are available to British citizens from the islands.
