HC Deb 14 November 1984 vol 67 cc257-8W
Mr. Meadowcroft

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many individuals wishing to come to the United Kingdom from the Indian sub-continent as fiancés or fiancées or spouses of United Kingdom citizens are currently waiting an appointment for interview by an entry clearance officer.

Mr. Waddington

The information requested on husbands and male fiancés is pubished quarterly in the Home Office statistical bulletin "Control of Immigration: Statistics"—footnote 2 of table 10 of issue 19/84 for the second quarter of 1984. At the end of June 1984, 3,400 wives—including those whose husbands are not British citizens — were awaiting their first interview; female financées do not need to obtain entry clearance.
