HC Deb 14 November 1984 vol 67 cc237-8W
Mr. Beggs

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what action he has taken, or intends to take, in regard to the report by the Northern Ireland Comptroller and Auditor General on the 1982–83 accounts of health and social services boards about financial control of the health and social services accounts for North and West Belfast district of the eastern board.

Mr. Chris Patten

I have expressed my concern to the chairman of the eastern board and the board is taking urgent action to remedy deficiencies in financial control in the former North and West Belfast district. The district is now reorganised into three units of management; new senior staff are in post and new systems are being introduced. The board is to provide regular progress reports on these matters to the Department.

Mr. Beggs

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if disciplinary action has been taken against any member of staff in connection with financial abuses in the North and West Belfast district of the Eastern Health and Social Services Board in 1982–83.

Mr. Chris Patten

No, but the board's investigation is continuing.
