Completed logs for both submarines and surface ships are sent to the Ministry of Defence records office. In addition, the flag officer submarines issues instructions for the keeping by submarines of detailed narrative accounts of exercises and operations, to support the commanding officer's formal report of proceedings submitted to his operational commander.
