Selling by Telephone

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what plans the Government have to introduce new guidelines on selling by telephone.

Mr. Fletcher

As proposed in his report on "Selling by Telephone", which was published on 4 October, the Director General of Fair Trading is to encourage the adoption of new guidelines by all firms responsible for initiating or making unsolicited telephone approaches to consumers. This is the most appropriate course.
