HC Deb 13 November 1984 vol 67 c201W
Mr. Stern

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will outline the facilities available for the transfer of medical records from the community to prison medical staff in the case of prisoners (a) held on remand and (b) held awaiting final placement.

Mr. Mellor

There are arrangements for the NHS records of prisoners sentenced to more than two years' imprisonment to be sent to the prison concerned as soon as possible. In addition, every prisoner is examined by a medical officer when first received, and if it appears that he was under treatment before he entered custody the medical officer may if he thinks it necessary write to the doctor or hospital concerned to obtain further information.
