HC Deb 13 November 1984 vol 67 c172W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many milk processing plants exist in Wales; how many people are currently employed in them; and what is his provisional estimate as to (a) which plants may close or suffer partial closure and (b) how many jobs will be lost following the implementation of the Dairy Milk Quota Regulations 1984.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

It is estimated that there are some 40 plants involved in the preparation of milk and milk products in Wales employing around 3,000 full-time employees.

It is a matter for the companies concerned to determine in their commercial judgment the future capacity that will be required.
