HC Deb 13 November 1984 vol 67 c204W
Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he has received representations from the Independent Broadcasting Authority suggesting that some diversification of the activities of local radio companies be permitted; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Giles Shaw

No such representations have been received, but the Independent Broadcasting Authority announced on 12 November as part of a package of measures to strengthen the financial foundations of independent local radio, that the authority would in future be placing a stronger requirement on ILR companies to take responsibility for their own affairs, particularly as regards diversification of activities.
