HC Deb 13 November 1984 vol 67 c178W
Mr. Terlezki

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) if he will introduce legislation to provide that claims made under guarantees for goods supplied are settled within a specified period of time;

(2) if he will introduce legislation to provide that guarantees which accompany goods contain enough information for the customers to know who has given the guarantee and whether an insurance scheme is involved.

Mr. Fletcher

I have no plans at present to introduce legislation on guarantees. The Director General of Fair Trading published in August a discussion paper "Consumer Guarantees" which put forward for comment by 31 December 1984 some preliminary recommendations, including those mentioned in these questions. I understand the Director General will be examining responses to that paper with a view to publishing a final report in the new year.
