§ Mr. Terlezkiasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) if he will introduce legislation to provide that claims made under guarantees for goods supplied are settled within a specified period of time;
(2) if he will introduce legislation to provide that guarantees which accompany goods contain enough information for the customers to know who has given the guarantee and whether an insurance scheme is involved.
§ Mr. FletcherI have no plans at present to introduce legislation on guarantees. The Director General of Fair Trading published in August a discussion paper "Consumer Guarantees" which put forward for comment by 31 December 1984 some preliminary recommendations, including those mentioned in these questions. I understand the Director General will be examining responses to that paper with a view to publishing a final report in the new year.
