HL Deb 13 November 1984 vol 457 c307WA
Lord Mottistone

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in connection with the instruction to drivers of motor vehicles in form D100 to report to the Driving Vehicle Licence Centre any occurrence of specific health defects, how many notifications of each health defect have been reported by drivers in the last twelve months for which figures are available, and what action, in general, has been taken, following such notifications.

Lord Brabazon of Tara

In the 12-month period to end of October 1984 the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre received 93,759 driving licence applications containing a medical declaration. A further 23,195 notifications were received from current licence holders. There is no breakdown available for the particular health defects notified.

All applications containing a medical declaration and notifications are considered by the medical branch at the centre, and in appropriate cases detailed medical inquiries are made. Depending on the outcome of the inquiries, applications may be refused, or licences revoked or restricted.
