HC Deb 13 November 1984 vol 67 c170W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what was the total level of expenditure by his Department on derelict land reclamation in Wales for each of the years from 1979–80 to 1983–84; and what is the estimated level of expenditure for 1984–85 and 1985–86.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

The Welsh Development Agency took over responsibility for derelict land reclamation from the Welsh Office in 1976. Total expenditure since 1979 on derelict land schemes funded by the WDA and on residual Welsh Office projects approved before 1976 was as follows:

£ million
1979–80 7.8
1980–81 9.1
1981–82 10.9
1982–83 10.2
1983–84 11.7

In the current year over £9 million is expected to be spent on WDA and Welsh Office schemes. No decisions have yet been taken on the likely expenditure provision for this activity in 1985–86. It is also anticipated that expenditure associated with land reclamation will be aided under the urban development grant programme.
