§ Mr. Wareingasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he has now studied the report of the British 218W Deaf Association on deaf discrimination, a copy of which was sent to him; what action he proposes to take; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. NewtonI have read the report with interest, but do not feel that it shows that anti-discrimination legislation would be a practical or effective way of resolving the problems with which it is concerned. I am however arranging to draw the report's comments on particular points to the attention of appropriate colleagues, and the Government will continue to seek ways of helping to meet the difficulties which deaf people can face.
